Housing Support Programs
Northland Counseling Center’s Housing Support Programs assist Itasca County Residents who have a serious mental illness and are at risk of, or who are homeless, to obtain and maintain safe affordable housing. we provide services including: Housing stabilization services, the Bridges Rental Assistance Program, Main Stream and Housing Choice Vouchers, Coordinated Entry, Heat Assistance and Landlord Relations. We also coordinate care with the Grace House (our local homeless shelter) and various housing organizations in the six county North East region. Northland Counseling Center’s housing program is part of the NE Continuum of Care for HUD funded housing programs and the plan to end homelessness.

Housing Stabilization Services: Mental illness symptoms, physical health conditions, and developmental and/or learning disabilities can make it difficult for individuals to search for and secure housing, interact with landlords and neighbors, and understand and follow a lease. Having access to the right supports, provided by a professional with knowledge and experience in housing, can help people to find and maintain housing Long-term. Aurora Heights: Consists of 14, 1-bedroom permanent Supportive Housing units. Permanent supportive housing is a proven solution to homelessness for the most vulnerable chronically homeless people; it pairs housing with case management and supportive services. Hearth Connection: Housing support for persons who have experienced MN long-term homeless in Itasca and Aitkin County. Referrals must go through Coordinated Entry. If you have questions, please contact: Gina Howat at 218-256-9103, Barb Larson at 218-256-0570, or Jill Shepherd 218-421-8030.
